I was wondering about buying used sand. If I bought some and cleaned it real good in ro water will it cause me any problems down the road

Not if it was rinsed really well, but IMO it is a big pain.

Someone in my area is getting out of the hobby and he is selling 130 pounds of Fiji live rock and around 100 pounds of sand for $225. I'm getting a 150 this weekend so I figure its be a good start

Sounds like good start to me. Go get a big kegorator for the sand and keep rinsing and rinsing.

Sounds like a plan. Trying to cut some spending where I can. Already going to be over budget by about $500. That's why I'm going to make my own sump/refugium.

Be sure to ask if he's ever treated the tank you dont want that rock leaching copper. And rinse the sand in tap water save the RO to fill that 150
