I am thinking of introducing some Sand Sisters (starfish) to my tank. How tough are they to maintain as it is new?

Thanks :)

sand sisters? Do you mean sand siFters? Don't think I've ever heard of sand sisters before.

They feed on worms and pods found in the sand. They do better in established tanks, but even then they deplete the sand fauna. In a 44 gallon I would be concerned that it was getting enough to eat. JMO

They do eat themself hungry because they eat all of the life in your sand bed.

I would get a fighting conch instead.

Thanks. This is the primary option available to me right now. What would be a good food for them? How 'hardy' are they? This reef gig is different -- it's even pretty difficult when it's cycled.

my SS star is doing great in my 32 gal tank.. but i have fairly deep sand... its rarely commin up for lack of food
