That is awsome to hear the details. The Imp is definitly a very exciting fish to have. Just keep a good eye on him. Look for flukes. Yes, he will get a lot bigger then he is now. They seem to be a very unpredicatble fish when it comes to their health. I believe it is all in the capturing of the fish that makes all the difference. Hopefully you got a good one. From the pics, it looks like you have. What size tank did you inherit?

Yes he will get ALOT bigger than he is now. The Emperor Angefish can reach up to 15"......Thats alot bigger than he is now. They are recommend to be keeped in a tank no smaller than 135gal tank. I would recommend enriching his food with vitamins and color enhancing formula....To keep his color looking good. Very nice fish Good Luck!

He's around 4" long, a full adult and my tank is 90 gallons (48Lx18Wx24H). I guess we'll have to see where it goes on his ultimate size, rate of growth, etc. I don't anticipate a larger tank in the near future since this was a gift and I wasn't in the multi-thousand dollar tank market to begin. We shall see, I guess...

Anyone else here in the 90 gallon range hosting similar livestock?

Tonight was his second night and eating has been no problem. He ate Angel Formula and some Formula One with the rest of the fish. The several inches of seaweed on the clip I put in yesterday evening was totally gone by morning. He and the Scopas Tang were making routine visits to it.

At this rate (and considering that very little scares him), I think he might be a hand feeder in the not too distant future.

How often should I offer seaweed on a clip?

The LFS gave me a few stray mushroom polyps tonight when I picked up another small batch of Scarlet Hermits. I put them in to see if he goes after them or not... consider it a test for my future mushroom hosting possibilities.

Thanks!
- Aaron

Congrats on this beautiful animal. She should do fine for a while, but a larger tank may be in your future if you plan to keep her long term. But for now relax and enjoy.
Glad to hear she is eating, thats a wonderful beginning.

You have one SPECTACULAR friend there Aaron. I have been away from SW for more than 8 years and at some point I may go back now that I know what I do. I had bad luck and quite honestly it was not fair to the fish I tried to keep.

With the support and resources available here I think I could pull it off. At any rate, you should post a few pics of the entire tank! Would love to see it. Thanks for sharing.

I took some more photos tonight and got quite a few of the Emperor and others visiting our new Cleaner Shrimp, Jacques.

You might find these interesting... the Emperor opens his gills quite wide to allow the shrimp to clean up inside them. I happened to get some shots right through his gills and out his mouth.

They are on my server:

http://sparhawk.sbc.edu/tank/clean-freaks/

But I'll throw in a couple here as attachment as well.

Enjoy!
- Aaron

P.S. I might do another post on this regarding the Cleaner Shrimp for those interested outside of this thread...

Oops - accidentally put the close-up in there for my avatar rather than a 640x480, so it's tiny. Others are fine, though (as are captioned ones at the link).

Wish I could edit attachments after I posted them.
