So my dad has a 75 gal that is about 12 yo and the quad t5 unit just broke an he is wondering if a single Tao would get the job done cuz he doesn't have the money for 2 right now. He only has green hairy mushrooms in it which just about cover all the rock from end to end and he doesnt want any other coral. Would a single unit with no optics sustain them? Or would he need to have a second?

A single tao is good for a width of 2 feet. So he will need to of them to properly cover his tank

If its just mushroom he could get by. He will get some light on the ends but not full. I have one over a 75 frag tank high light corals in the middle lower light ones to the side which works for me.

Agree with both responses..... for a 4ft tank, you should have two, but you could use just one for mushrooms only. If there are any at the far ends of the tank, they may need to be moved in toward the center a bit.
