Skiiming...24/7???

Does everyone run their skimmers all of the time? Mine is a bit noisier than I thought it would be and I was considering using a timer and having it off for a few hours each evening. I have 2 powerheads, so the water will keep moving.

One thing to be concerned over is the water that stagnates in the skimmer body. If the skimmer is off for to long then you can get some fairly nasty water conditions in the skimmer and then when its powered back up all that nasty is dumping into the water.

How long where you talking about? Just a few hours or like over night and into the morning.

I keep my skimmer running 24/7 and my tank is in my room....It took a night or 2 to get used to the sound, but i don't even notice it any more.

I was thinking about a few hours each evening...maybe 3 or 4 at the most.
