Skimmer pump died: replace or upgrade?

I have an AquaC Remora protein skimmer with a Rio 800 pump.

Can I upgrade to a 1200 (would it benefit?) or should i stick with the 800?
 
I would think using the 1200 would make the protein slimmer more effective. What size tank do you have?
