When emptying my skimmer cup, should I clean off the slime & scum that's deposited on the tube leading up to the cup? I know that I don't want that junk in the water, but will cleaning it off require the skimmer to need to somewhat "break in" again?

Hope that makes sense...

Yes and Yes. Clean the cup and the tube. The break-in will not be very long, but that might depend on your skimmer. I don't scrub it but I do clean it enough to see through it again.

i just wipe it off with a bunch of paper towels
i dont go as far as trying to get it spotless
since its under my canopy
re-break in is about 30 mins
b4 it gets going again (every 3 weeks or when it gets to funky brown)

Everything said here seems accurate IME as I have been cleaning all of mine off and it seems that there is a very short break in period (can be about 5-10 min)
