Skimmers and the Motors not lasting long

I have the Bak Pack Protein Skimmer.. Although I clean it regularly THE MOTOR tends to not last long. Whats the best way to clean it REALLY good so itll last awhile? Or, do these usually not last long anyway...
Tell me your experiences with them, B/C mines a pain.

The best way to clean a submersible pump is take out the impeller and soak everything in vinegar for a few hrs. Calcium tends to build up on the magnet of the impeller and the housing where the impeller sits. Vinegar will dissolve that build up.

Thanx for the info..Im going to try soaking one of my motors, b/c its not working..but Ill fit that into the maintenace rountine from now on.
