hi all, when i was cleaning my glass i noticed indian smoke signals coming from the rock to my left.i mean it was like when you add kh to the tank you get that smoke, but little puffs. this is what i seen. any ideas on what it is?

My LR smokes also,,,he he,,

It is actually tiny worm like creatures, I can't remember the names...but, they grab anything they can out of the water and on the surface of the rocks and when they drag it back in and processes it, it then lets it go into the water column in what appears to be smoke...Sometimes it goes off in multiple places at one time...Cool show to watch...

We have smoke signals all the time over here too, here's a pic of ours, they used to hide in the rock, now they are everywhere.

Here's a link to let you know they are called Stomatella varia, they are reef safe according to the site

this one is a close up of the pic from the site: http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/picture_pages/faq_stomatella.html

It's about half way down the page.

Here's a pic of one of ours, he's inside the outlet of our skimmer. They are a lot faster than the snails!
