Snail dead? Will it affect tank

I have a 8 gallon reef tank and one of my snails was lying on the sand yesterday with another snail like next to it, facing eachother!!! The other snail left while that one stayed there!! I left it for a day still there, I pulled him out and it was closed shut, and smelt? My tank is fine no ammonia nitrites or nitrates but I did a water change in the afternoon, do you think it was dead!! I took it out

If it smelled rancid it was dead. I'd be trying to figure out why it died though, points to a water quality issue usually.

No, everything is fine, fish, other snail, coral opened up like usual!! Don't know why?

Eight gallon tank I would say remove it. If it was 29 or more I would say it would not matter.
