My husband and I were watching The Surreal Life about 2 weeks ago on tv and in the foyer of the house they have a large tank and it was just full of yellow tangs. I was wondering how this could be, I thought they wouldn't live together peacefully.

Has anyone else seen a tank like this? It was beautiful. How did they make that happen? What other species of large fish can you do that with?

Tangs can be kept singly or in groups larger than 4. They are a shoaling fish in the wild but like their personal space. Their territorial instincts are kept in check in large numbers. Fewer than 4 and you will more than likely have a real estate dispute between them.

Ah ok, maybe I was thinking of fewer than 4 that they wouldn't get along. Duh that makes sense.

The tank would also need to be large. I would think larger than 180 for them all to be able to grow to full potental size
