Spectrometer

Some reefers use spectrometer to measure their salinity. My question is, how critical is it in having a very accurate salinity when changing water?

Very important. It can stress out fish, cause enough to kill inverts and stress/harm coral.

When you are using other hydrometer even they are off, you are measuring both the tank and the new salt water mix with the same readings. Would that make any difference? Also, the spectrometer needs calibration and it can also be off.

Yeah, we use refractometers. They need calibrated with the fluid they come with. I picked up a digital refractometer that needs less calibration and love it. I use it weekly and it keeps my salinity perfect. The salinity sometimes goes up, but never more then .01 and never above 27 or below 25.
