Don't add them. If they are dieing specimens on your LR, scrub them off with SW before placing in the tank. If this is a new set up, they might be a good source of ammonia to help the cycle but hard to say without more info.

If they are some sort of decoration, they can never be added. The sponge will quickly begin to rot once saturated.

One thing to add to what steve said, if you have a bunch on new LR I would still scrub 3/4 of it off unless your curing it outside because dead sponges in quantity will make a room unbearable to sit in for the smell. They are so nasty when they start to decompose. Anything less than a big daddy ionic breeze right next to the tank will not keep it at bay.
