I have a lot of soft corals in my tank and I wanted to start getting some sps. I have zoanthids and mushrooms and I wanted to know if I would be safe to start adding some acros. I already have a few digi's and a couple of monti's. my Lfs told me that I would need to start running carbon is that true.

No. You won't need to run carbon. leathers will sometimes release chemicals into the water column, but zoas and mushrooms compete by overgrowing corals. Some mushrooms will kill whatever they touch, but that's as far as they reach.

Some are, and some aren't. I would get some frags from local reefers and try them first. Usually, corals that have been living in tanks for generations are easier to keep than wild colonies you see at the LFS.
