about a month after I started my tank, one of the LR started growing small patch of dark-purple star polyps (they open when light is on, and retract when light is off, wonderful!).

The polys then suddenly disappear over a night and never grow back.

What could be the cause? Don't want it to happen again :(

What kind of light do you have. What are you water parameters?

But on a side note.
They can get smotherd very easily by detrius. Do you dust the rock off? BTW do you have and pics of them they sound cool. I have BSP and GSP but I never saw a Purpls Start Polyp.

i use a normal flourescent and i only measure salinity + nitrate :p
they seems okay (1.023-1.025) and zero nitrate.

i found a pic from my photo archive :)

That is not enough light for them. You will need much more light then NO. Are they in a nano

Also. That anemone you have will not survive under NO lights. Not to mention that you tank is only tree months olld.

oops.. i do not have the budget to acquire a better light at the moment... seems like i am making BIG BIG mistake over here :(

i've re-adjusted the rocks since these pic taken. view my gallery... the top flat piece...

the piece of LR is now at the top. but those polyps are long gone.
now i have two little feathers on the rock, :)

what size tank do you have?

you also need to test for other elements in your water, am, ni, na, ph, ca and sg most importantly.

Your lighting will have a very big impact on how your corals live and die.
