What do starfish exactly eat?

and make sure you can feed it. many starfish cannot be kept in closed systems. some live only off of things we can't supplement. some of them are still a mystery as far as diet goes. in other words- we don't know what they eat.

if you want to get a starfish for your 28, look into a black or red brittle star. those you can hand feed meaty foods.

Now I have a reddish(I'm not sure what the name is but will find out) starfish and I'm not feeding it anything. I've had it for about a month and still is moving.

it usually takes a couple months to starve, if that's the case. take a pic and post it.

I have probably 100 tiny ones in my 20 gallon...came on my live rock. They are a creamish color and look like brittle stars.

Bristle or serpent starfish are super easy to keep. They eat the left over food that the fish dont get to. I swear they can "taste" food as soon as it hits the water.....they come out of hidding waving their arms around to catch their share of food.
