That sure is a interesting theory. So by torturing the corals we make them grow faster, in this specific case. Seems like that could be tested.
I did a brief survey of reefs we would all be envious of and most of them dose various elements. But as said before, the safest thing is probably water exchanges regularly. I run over 600 gallons, so that gets a bit pricey.

I always saw results from strontium dosing though mostly with coralline algae. With non reef IO salt and only monthly water changes there was a definite increase in both the color and rate of growth. This was only in my tank under my personal conditions. I dosed less than half the recommended amount on the Kent label and I also used iodine at half dose. I never had adverse effects over 10 years I followed this regimen. It certainly doesn't prove a single thing but I thought I'd add my own experience to the topic.
