Just wanted to add that flake is notorious for adding po4 which will lead to algae problems. I’d also check your well water for no3/po4. Using ro/di will eliminate not only no3/po4 but also all the other harmful elements that could be in the well water ie: oil, pesticides, and everything else that gets washed into the gutters from the street.

A lot of people get them from ebay for around $100. Below are the 3 most popular sites:
Filter-Direct-store (seems to be most popular on this site)
The-Aqua-Safe-Pure-Water-Shop
ROfilterDepot

Also airwaterice.com is a good place if you don’t want to deal with ebay.

I’d use frozen foods the majority of the time using flakes very sparingly. Personally I like Marine Cuisine Frozen which is a good balanced diet and vitamin supplemented. Your lfs should carry it.

I’d thaw the frozen in a cup of tank water, and then drain the liquid to keep po4 down. (You can use a sieve or a paper towel)

I use Kent Garlic Extreme, Selcon, & Zoe to help boost their immune. (I soak all my frozen in this for 30+ minutes)

Feeding every other day only what fish consume in less then 5 minutes. If it not consumed in 5 minutes then reduce feedings slightly. If consumed in less then 30 seconds increase slightly. When I do feed every other day, the days I do feed I do it in the morning before work and when I get home.
