I had something similar happen to my tank.

HUGE burst of copepods! So many you could see them crawling on the glass from a good distance away. There were so many they were getting caught by the powerheads and floating through the water turning my tank into a snowglobe!

Over about 3-5 days time the population diminished and has reached what I call a stable point. I dunno if my fish ate some (clowns and a gramma at that point) or if they just died off naturally, but now there's a good size population.

Your mandarin will go to town for a few weeks but you better moniter the pod population or else he could starve in a few months if he eats them all. Just lookin out for the mandarin.
