I just went a bought a two light t5 fixture because I was told zoas will not grow with two t8s. Are the two t5s i bought better than than t8's i have and will they grow zoas?

That is the same fixture I have. My zoas do fine, as do mushrooms, kenya tree, and believe it or not, several LPS corals such as torch, frogspawn, duncan, galaxea, and blastomussa.
That being said, your mileage will vary. I don't really know why my corals are all doing better under these lights than they should, and I intend to upgrade soon to avoid pushing my luck!
But it'll be fine for low light softies like zoas and mushrooms.
