is the tap water filter produced by aquarium pharmaceuticals sufficient for filtering water for a new tank? trying to avoid spending the money for a RO unit

Without see which 1 you are talking about I would say no. Most common tap water filters only have a sediment filter and/or carbon filter. They take the dirt and chlorine out....not much else.
