Thick brown algae diatom issue

Not sure what this stuff is. It kind ok looks like sponge or cauliflower is it a type of diatom? Anyone know?

Looks to be some sort of sponge...if you're worried about it, just suck it off with some tubing..nbd

I don't think it's actual sponge. I tried sucking it out. Wasn't working to well. Doesn't seem to be spreading much more than it has. It's all the way across my 55..

The picture is hard to see, but this website has good descriptions and pictures.
Might be calothrix?
As far as getting it off the reefs, maybe try a soft tooth brush.
