Trachyphyllia radiata (Brain Coral)

I just had a couple of questions about a brain coral and its placement. I read that it prefers to be on a sandy substrate, but would it make a difference if it is placed on the bottom two thirds of the tank on a piece of live rock. Im basically just asking this because I have a nice spot for it and just wanted to know if it is ok. Thanks in advance......
 
No they need to be on the substrate. When put on the rocks the fleshy part will start to recede. Here is a pic of mine. They do much better in sand.
