My 46 gal reef tank has been up and running for over a year now. Recently, I decided to get a slightly larger tank and picked up a 72 gal tank.

When I transfer the LS from one tank to another, should I rinse it off with tank water or just dump it in as it is and wait for the dust storm to settle?

well you should grab a few cups of the old stuff to seed the new stuff and the rest should be rinsed.

If you take your old sand and just dump it in the new tank you`ll have more to worry about then just a dust storm. You`ll have an ammonia spike also. At the least you`ll have to rinse the sand off real good. I dont ever use my sand over. I always add new sand and seed a few cups of the old into the new. Too much trash IMO in the old sand but I know there are others that do reuse it and have good results also. I cant discount their experiences as well as mine.
