"tumble weed alage"

My LFS has what looks to me like a small tumble weed of alage. What is this? Can I use it in a refugium? How am I to trim it? Will tangs eat it?
Lots of questions. Any help would be great!

Is is green and resembles a plastic brillo pad? If so, it's probably chaetomorpha, a GREAT sump addition for removal of nitrates.

Have a look here, it actually sounds like a brush or maidens hair algae. Both can be used in a refugium although much slower growing than your typical macro.
