turning my power filter into a fuge

How do I modify my marineland emperor to slow its flow down to use it as a fuge? is it necessary to slow the flow down?

I used a Whisper power filter and I did not mod it all. A piece of acrylic or some rock rubble could slow the flow down into the fuge chamber.
