I have a 30 gal tank with lots of live rock and 4 small fish. I have been given an under gravel filter and was thinking of using it but I think I read somewhere they are not so good for a salt water tank. Any help as to wheather or not I should use the UGF would help thanks.

Nay on SW. Can trap deterius that will lead to high nitrate levels. Better invest on a DSB of aragonite sand and a clean up crew to take care of it. No maintenance needed.

If your budget will allow, pick up some LR to filter your tank. If you have 1.5-2 pounds of LR per gal of water, all you'd need is a skimmer and powerheads for water movement. :D

No reason to use it, especically if its already an established tank with live rock, then there's no reason at all to mess things up by trying to add it.

There is a guy on reefcentral that has a 34 year old reef tank that has had an ugf on it from day one... Makes you wonder doesn't it?
