Just a quick update on my tank... (if anyone's interested!)

My battle with hair algae is beginning to be won. I bought my own RO DI unit and am now producing my own water. Getting TSD of around 1-2. My shop bought water was around 24!! I didn't know till I tested it.

I have also stopped dropping frozen food into the tank. Now I put it onto some kitchen roll, folded into four, so it absorbs the juice when it melts. This works great.

I've also found two great new tank inhabitants..!

I tiny tiny starfish and a long scary worm ha ha!!
I'm guessing it's a bristle worm.

My pulsing xena is slowly growing. I really want it to grow up the back of my tank to cover the back wall but I'm not sure how to get it off the stone it's on and onto the back.

It's hard to get the fish to pose. They don't seem to want to listen?

With the xenia you can scrape it off the plug with a razorblade and either use coral glue or gel super glue to stick it on the back wall.

What's your stock list? You look like you have quite a few fish

I've got two clowns, 6-line wrasse, algae blenny, emperor cardinal, and a small yellow one (blenny too I think, he never gets any bigger.

Also I got a fire shrimp, cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp. Plus snails, hermits etc and one emerald crab.

I think I'm on my limit for fish. I'm not planning on putting anymore in there.

The yellow fish looks like a clown goby to me. A yellow rock goby is another name for it I think! Nice tank btw

Yeah I think the yellow is a clown goby. Beautiful fish :) beautiful tank.

I'm having a hair algae problem myself! You started making your own water and it went away?? I've been buying my ro from the store and have quite the lawn growing in my tank wonder if I'm experiencing the same problem

Well, as a say I changed a few things. So I'm not really sure which individual one cured it. I'm pretty sure it was a combination.
I would recommend getting a four stage RO DI unit though, basically for ease of use and it keeps you away from the fish shop! Plus you know EXACTLY what your putting in there. A TDS meter is a must. It's interesting to see what the shop supplies as RO water. Mine read 24 PPM. My tap water is 130 ish, my unit is about 2-3 PPM.

I have a Kent maxxima I live in an apartment so I have limited access to a water source that's not in the way of Doin my dishes or takin a shower ya kno but I know I should try to rig it up somewhere, and prolly change all the filter media because it's been sitting around un used, is anyone else in the same predicament I'm in? What are some solutions to hooking up my rodi in my apartment so its not in the way

I got a fitting which clamps onto ur water pipe. The fitting has a tap attached to it so u can turn it off when ur not using it. So if u never got a fitting u could maybe look for one online?

Well I am at work just now but I could send one tomorrow. I'll see if I can find one online and upload a pic

It's not letting me upload photos but search 'self piercing feed valve' online! Hope this helps! U will have to find one with a thread to suit ur RO/DI unit connection

I ordered an adapter that is an aerator. you take your aerator off your fauce and put this aerator on. when done swap it back. costs 6.50 from purewater.com
