Currently I have the Aqua C Remora HOT protein skimmer for my 75 gallon tank and it seems to work pretty good. I noticed that it is recommended up to a maximum tank size of 75 gallons. I seem to have a decent amount of algae growing around and I don't know if underskimming could be part of the cause? I read that the Remora Pro is built to handle tanks 75 gallons and up! I was wondering if I could just install the same pump on my current skimmer and get similar results? Is their more of a difference between the 2 skimmers besides size of the unit and size up the pump? My current skimmer has the Maxi Jet 1200 and the Pro has the Rio 1400 I think the difference is 295gph to 375gph! Would this be a waste of money?

I wouldn't use the Rio PH. The Remora should run this tank, and generally underskimming isn't a main source of algae.

How much skimmate/skum/crap is it producing?
