Upgrading tank - have a question or two.

I'm upgrading from a 15g to a 20 gallon reef. Got about 13-14 gal new saltwater mixing in the new tank location. Got a bag of dry aragonite. I plan o tossing that in when the saltwater is fully mixed, cutting off the pumps and letting it settle.

How much of my old sand should I throw in the tank (old tank has been up over a year). Going to use all my LR + 10 - 15lbs, but I don't want to kick off a cycle, I want to put my clown and fire shrimp/crabs right in the new tank.

I would add the new sand and seed it with a few cups on the old sand.

Thanks. Everything else should be cool, right? I'm going to use my old filter media and 6-7 gallons of the existing tank water. Tank should be good to go up and running from day 1, right?

I wouldn't worry too much about using the water from your old tank. The water column won't contain much of the beneficial bacteria. The established sand and LR will do the trick.

I would also consider a few more lbs of LR. A twenty gallon tank needs at least 20 lbs preferably 25 or 30 lbs. JMO

For suere. I already have around 20 lbs existing in my current tank. I'm gonna add 10 - 15 more lbs., which should put me right in the good range. Thanks for your help.
