Wow....I would be very worried about putting a tank that size on anything other then something designed to hold it. I was going to suggest some cinder blocks and some 4X4s but I hope your idea works out!

Everything I've read said to support the tank on all sides. That's a lot of money to risk.

I agree with the rest. I would not want any edge bits of the tank unsupported or un-equally supported. I use concrete blocks and pressure treated boards with one inch of styrofoam between the glass and the boards.

(the boards are 2" x 6", cut to the length of the tanks. The tanks are only 12" wide so two boards support the entire tank.)

Regarding the tank being oversized a few inches, I ended up adding an inch-thick layer of wood across the entire tank to support the ends. I'm pretty confident,after inspecting the construction of the All-Glass brand stand I've been using, that this is far superior.
