hi everyone,
i am setting up my tank and doing the plumbing. i ahve got a uv unit from by old planted discus tank, and was thinking of using it on my new reef tank, but then i have heard that you shouldnt use them on reef tanks, its okay on fish only, but on reef tanks that they are supposed to kill some of the beneficial bacteria in the water so you dont need one and shouldnt use one.
so i was wondering what you guys thought of this and whether you use one or have used one?

all help very much appreciated,
andrew

Bactera dont live in the water they live on the substrate, live rocks and any other surface. What they will do is kill just about anything that flows past the UV bulb if the flow rate is correct.

Take a look in our articles area for a great article on the UV and some of the facts vs myths.
