it would be worth trying on a fowlr to see how it works... I would never cut corners with bulbs on my reef but a fowlr with a few easy corals it would be fun to see how it looked and the corals grew.
If I just didnt get a killer deal on a PC I was going to get a 660 for my new/used tank and I would have tried this..
