Water changes question.

Hi, I wonder if two of the following water changes will have the same result in water changing.

1. Take out 5% of water from tank, place in 5% clean salt water, take out 5% from tank, place in 5% and lastly take another 5%, and place back
5%.

2. Take out 15% water from tank, place in 15% clean salt water.

Will number 1 and 2 have the same results? Or number 2 would be better?

#2 will dillute the water mor and if all is done in one day would be better IMO. As a regular thing # 1 will be easier on the fish and would be a better schedule to mantain. ie; 5% per week rather than 15% every 3 weeks. To be honest though either would work just fine.

did you mean in #1 three changes right after one another?

Ya Wally, I mean one after another. Meaning for #1 or #2, both are done in 1 day.

Your acutally taking more dirty water out by doing #2 than #1. The reason is when you remove the second 5 gal of water in #1 part of the clean 5 gal you just added is removed so the dirty water is less 'dirty' if you will. Of course to compensate for that you can just remove 20 gal in 5 gal incriments or 15 gall all at once.
