What is this??

My canister filter has been populated with these jelly like things. They are approximately 4mm long and 3mm in diameter. It is greyish in color although the photo appears to be brownish which is probably due to the indoor lighting. It also appears to have a tail, but it does not appear to be alive or moving. It is soft and I can squash it. There will eventually be so many of them that they will block my filter media and reduce my water flow. They are also found clinging inside the canister wall and within my skimmer. Does anyone know what they are?

I have a funny feeling that they might be baby shrimps spawned by my two cleaner shrimps and subsequently sucked into the filter and die there. But they were much smaller when spawned. So could it be something else?

I get populations of them from time to time in my HOBS and in random places, I have also heard them called pineapple sponges.

They do NOT taste like pineapples though trust me... (jk)

Thanks guys! I think I'll leave the tasting aside for now.

Although they are harmless, they do block my filter regularly and I had to clean them out. How often do they reproduce?
