What kinda critter?

I was snooping around my tank last night with my flashlight and i noticed hundreds of little "things" darting around the tank. I first noticed them around my snails. They are very tiny and seem to dart around the tank. I tell exactly what shape they are because they are so small. They were floating around with the current and darting around like a bunch of fleas....they aren't sand fleas are they? Is it some sort of plankton?? Are they part of the san bed?

i know exactly what you are talking about try looking in holes and under your rocks with the lights on i just call them bugs a variety of shapes and sizes...they are a good thing...yuck.

Amphipods & copepods -- a sign of a healthy, mature/maturing tank. Good "natural" food source.
