what to do with old live sand

It has been a couple of years since i have turned the lights on in my tank. Water still in it and some rocks(not live). No fish. I had put live sand in it before i finally gave up and now have recently decided to try to give it another try. What do i do with the live sand that has been in the tank this whole time? Should i just go start from scratch again and just get new. Thanks

yes...u can take the LR out and clean it good and use it for base but i doubt u can use the sand....maybe if u took it out and washed it good....a couple of years....that must smell rank LOL

LOL no if it did it woulda finally got me to change it. But the craziest thing is that i have had the filter running the whole time. I know I know why would anyone.....just lazy. Every monday morning gotta go top off the tank.
