What to put in refugium?

I am wondering what I should put in my refugium. Right now I have a few different kinds of caulerpa and about 5-6 inches of fine sand. I wanna get rid of my caulerpa and get some other better kind of macroalgae. Also is it better just to get rid of it and have the sand down there. I am looking at a natural kind of filtration. I have about 3-4 inches of live sand in the display and about 40 lbs of live rock. The main tank is a thirty gallon tank and the refugium is a 10 gallon.

Fast growing caulerpas have a tendency of going sexual and crashing releasing toxins in the water that can crash your tank.

I have used both Chaetomorpha and Halemida and liked the results from both. When I get a bigger tank and go with a larger fuge, I would also like to use some gracilliaris.
