Why are some moonlights blue and some white?

All the plans I see in the DIY section are blue and then the LED's that come from the factory in hoods are white...

What gives?

Each manufacturer has there own discretion as to what consitutes the color of "moonlight", the same as for each DIY'er

Also, largely depends what type of elements are used for generating the moonlight.

Generally, whether or not white, red, or blue LED's are used or if low power flourescents are used.

sounds good - can do this for about $6 if you go to the right places - see the post in DYI: 5 LED moonlight

Suggestions there for great price on high output LEDs and very cheap power pack.

Have Fun
