Do they tend do stay on the rock or will they move onto glass? How quickly do they move? Can they move into my powerhead in minutes or in hours?

They tend to go wherever you don't want them to go in my experience.

Mine never went onto the glass or the sandbed. Id say they can move probably 5 inches in an hour or so. At least mine did
