I have this 250 watt MH sitting around, i believe it used to be used for lighting of some other sort.

Any way here are some pics, do u think i can buy a standard MH bulb for the aquarium and get it to work in this fixture?

Yes. Fixtures are interchangeable. Bulbs are not. Find out if the ballast is magnetic or pulse start and be sure to get the right kind of bulb for it. Just be sure to mount it between 8 and 12 inches above the water surface.
