I have heard people say not to use windex. I have used windex on my aquariums for a long time. I have never noticed a problem. Is there a reason to stop?

If you spray the windex next to the aquarium the ammonia that is in it will be air borne and get in your tank. This will cause an ammonia spike and may harm the fish. Most people use white vinegar. I will sometimes go in the next room, spray the windex on a paper towel then bring it to the tank and wipe down the outside. But I never spray in the same room as the tank.

I spray mine on the rag in the next room. As mentioned above as long as it does not get airbourne you are OK.
