Dragonforce: Do you just cut it off. Stick a toothpick through it and use a rubberband to pull the toothpick down?

i have whats was sold to me as "palm xenia" . not sure of the exact name but it does not pulse. looks pretty cool though and since i bought it 1 month ago, it has doubled from 20 polyps to about 50.

Xenia grows very fast, faster than any other coral I've had(assuming tank/lighting conditions are optimal). It WILL take over a tank if not kept in check. The key to keeping it healthy and pulsing, IME, is to prune it regularly. It is speculated by some that Xenia grows so fast b/c each polyp has a fairly short lifespan. I've noticed if I don't thin mine out every few weeks or so it stops pulsing and starts looking wilted. After a good pruning with-in a couple days it starts looking good and pulsing again.
