Yellow Tang ?

My yellow tangs have the white strip on their sides. Ive seen pics of some with out it. I know it shows up during the dark period, but mine keep it 24/7. They had it since I bought them, any ideas why some do, and some don't have these all the time?

Well, do you have any pics. if it continues to have that white spot 24/7, then his diet is not great or your water quality. Also, by having a picture, I can properly diagnose your desease.

Oh I didn't know they were diseased

I can assure you the diet is better than that of most tangs (in aquariums). They eat formula 2, new life spectrum, and live macro collected off the coast. They didn't want to stay still but the one on the right shows the stripe.

Hey sixline! Very beautiful fish. Looks normal to me. Many that I have seen has had that stripe. Even mine!

Type in yellow tang in the photo gallery search and you'll see alot of y tangs that look the same as yours. Im my opinion yours look better than most.

Thank you revhtree, I try my best to keep them at their best.
Mabye it's something captive fish have... Just a thought I noticed the willd yellow tangs I see in pictures do not have the stripe during the day. Heres a pic I found of some wild yellow tangs. No stripe

That stripe is often used for a warning sign or when the fish is stressed. Just like all other fish, some have more prominent markings than others. Mine has the stripe and it comes and goes depending on what is going on in the tank. From what I have read it is normal and over time will give you an idea of your tangs mood. So think of it as a mood stripe.

If you look hard, the stripe is there it is just not white. Like I said, it is a mood stripe. If you jumped in the water near the wild Tangs, that stripe would turn white on them as well.
