I'm in DFW at the moment for school but I grew up in the Austin area and visit Houston nearly every weekend (fiance's family lives there, we plan to move to that area in about a year).

I don't really consider TX to be the Southwest, honestly. It's more Southern or Mid Western to me. Of course it has a splash of Mexican flair which makes it even more unique.
