0.25ppm ammonia

Just added 5 fish to my tank , 3 neon tetras and 2 male guppys , the ammonia went to 0.25 so I did a 30% water change , nitrates are only 2.0 ppm , do I have to keep doing water changes everyday while the ammonia is this high?? Is 30% enough ?

Ammonia 0.25 nitrate 5.0 and nitrites 0 in the tank now

What's your pH and temp? .25 isn't awful, but if it keeps climbing then you may have to take action.

Okay given that you are running with such a hig pH I would do a wc any time you are testing .50ppm ammonia.

Test your tap water after it sitting 12 hrs. That way you know what you're starting with. OS.
