Too much, you need a 25 watt

Too much. A ten gallon heater (Usually 50 watts) will overheat such a small tank in no time. A mini heater specially designed for very small tanks is the best thing to do. Good luck!

A 50 watt heater on a 1.5 gallon is dangerous. I wouldn't advise it. I do know that there is a 7.5 watt heater called the Hydor Mini Heater. That would probably be more sufficient for a 1.5 gallon. It is only $15 bucks on amazon.

So, wait, you got a 50 watt? Are you eventually gonna get a smaller one?

At or above 75 is fine for pretty much everything, so as long as it is stable, you should be ok.
