1.5 tank question

if i get a heater for say a 10 will it be ok to go in my 1.5 or will it be too much?

Too much. A ten gallon heater (Usually 50 watts) will overheat such a small tank in no time. A mini heater specially designed for very small tanks is the best thing to do. Good luck!

Is going to be where I put my females when they are ready to birth or maybe a shrimp and Betta like I had before
 
A 50 watt heater on a 1.5 gallon is dangerous. I wouldn't advise it. I do know that there is a 7.5 watt heater called the Hydor Mini Heater. That would probably be more sufficient for a 1.5 gallon. It is only $15 bucks on amazon.
 
I had to get one today do maybe it won't hurt anything I need somewhere to keep the female for her to have her fry
 
Not sure what I got the tank is at 78 and hasn't went up or down
