Probably the test strips are no good. Or, the Bio-Spira didn't work. Was it refrigerated the entire time? If it wasn't, then the batch is bad.
 
no, the biospira came with the aquarium and I doubt if was refridgerated at all. I'd expect to see some ammonium at least from the fish. I witness 2 of the 3 fish leaving some 'presents' for the snails last night. I think I'll head to the lfs and buy some fresh biospira and a better test kit.
 
Since the Bio-Spira wasn't refrigerated, then it is no good. You should have some ammonia present. It would be a good idea to get a fresh batch of the Bio Spira and make sure that it is refrigerated. A great test kit is the Aquarium Pharmecuticals Freshwater Master Test Kit. About $20 after shipping online.
 
you should probably get a liquid reagent test... they are a bit more accurate.
