I'm looking for a small helper to clean my glass a bit. So far I've seen these:
(SAE) Crossocheilus siamensis - 4" Peaceful
-or-
Otocinclus Catfish - 2" Peaceful

Is the Otto more of a plant cleaner than glass? I'm looking for one (or two?) fish that won't mess with my 2 super skitish cory's.

tia!

Definitely go with otocinclus for a 10gal. If you have diatoms they will clean it from every possible surface.

SAEs don't do too well with glass algae...they prefer algae on plants from my observations.

Except for the driftwood in my tank (which I wish they would leave for pleco), that is the only place I ever see my oto's, is on the glass. They keep it sparkling. :)

For a 10G tank go with the Otto they stay small, SAE's can reach up to 6" in link. If you have skittish fish the otto's will be a better choice since they are calmer fish then SAE's.

I just got a pair of ottos for my work tank, 10 gallons. I have a small SAE in there right now, just under 2 inches. The SAE didn't seem to do a good job. The ottos seem to be keeping the tank pretty clean. Once the SAE gets bigger I'm going to move it into my 29 gallon at home.
