10 gal planted betta/ghost shrimp tank

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I put a filter pad from my already cycled tank in the 10 gal so I'm pretty sure it's already cycled. And I live in Illinois, I'll defiantly buy a heater sometime in the future, before winter. And I kinda like the way the tannis looks haha

UPDATE: went to petco and bought a piece of driftwood and two plants. I'm not quite sure what kind they are so could you help me ID them? The tank looks soo much better already :)

Your Betta is going to LOVE being in a 10g. Everyone's been giving you good advice & it's nice to see you taking it. Still check the water parameters to make sure all is going well even though you think it's cycled. My cycled tank (4 months running) showed .25 ammonia about 5 days after a 50% water change so it can still happen. They like the plants & hidey holes, at least mine do.

I think they are anacharis. There was a label kinda close to them that said that. I was just making sure that's what they were.

My water params are:
Nitrate: around 10
No nitrites
Soft water
0 chlorine
High alkalinity
( this is from test strips, I know Nobody likes or trusts them but I never got the master test kit yet)

Hey guys I kinda need help. Today I noticed some jelly looking stuff on my driftwood and it's nasty. Should I take it out? It's really hard to see cuz my water is so dark still

New DW right? Wood will get this snot-textured fungus on it a few days-weeks after being submerged. It's completely safe (mostly just disgusting). Some fish will eat it even.

Not sure, I've just heard that before. You can take a toothbrush to it, or even just suck it out when you do a WC.

Either. If inside, just suck up the chunks with a gravel back. Outside would probably make it easier to pick up.

As I said, just using the gravel vac's hose (IE no giant tube) would probably suck it all right off, no mess.
